Junior Age Groups
Based on community feedback, the double-barrelled age group names (e.g. “13's (U14)”) have been replaced with simplified terminology such as “13s,” “14s,” etc. This clearer naming better reflects the structure of our NSW competitions, particularly as the majority of athletes are competing only at a grassroots or club level.
While the naming conventions used in NSW do not currently align exactly with those used at the national level, all athletes, both in NSW and nationally, compete in age groups based on year of birth. This ensures consistency in athlete groupings regardless of terminology.
Open & Masters Age Groups
The Open age group will remain as per previous seasons with no additional changes. Minimum ages for events in the Open category will be outlined in the Competition rules related to the specific competition.
Master's age groups will still be determined as per the first day of competition, as per World Masters Athletics rules.
We wish to be one of the first Athletics club’s to implement a formal Child Safety Standards Policy in line with the Child Safety Standards set out by the Office of the Children’s Guardian, with guidance from Little Athletics NSW (LANSW). The safety and protection of our athletes and volunteers is our absolute priority. We will ensure that the guidelines are strictly adhered to, and any deviation will not be tolerated. Our current policy v1.0 appears at the base of this page.
Eastlakes Athletics Centre Incorporated has appointed a Member Protection Information Officer and a ‘Young Guns’ peer support network, independent to the Executive Committee, for our athletes to be able to ask questions and raise any concerns.
We also have a strong history as a family oriented and friendly club. The LANSW Code of Conduct and Behavioural Guidelines have been adopted by Eastlakes and will be soundly encouraged and enforced.
Child Safety Standards
Eastlakes Athletics Centre Incorporated follows the Child Safety Standards published and monitored by the Office of the Children’s Guardian.
Code of Conduct
We expect all athletes, parents, guardians, coaches and officials to follow the Codes of Conduct as outlined by Little Athletics NSW.
Behavioural Guidelines
All athletes, parents, guardians, spectators, coaches and officials must follow the Behavioural Guidelines as sent out by Little Athletics NSW, the Australian Sports Commissions’ Junior Sport Code of Behaviour.
New South Wales Masters Athletics caters to male and female athletes aged 30 and over, who live in New South Wales. They are the State Association for Masters Athletes, as well as a Club affiliated with Athletics NSW, and they promote, encourage, and host events specifically for those age groups.
Their governing body is the Australian Masters Athletics Association (AMA). Their competitions run in 5-year age groups e.g.: W30=ages 30-34, M45=ages 45-49 across all track and field events, and they represent fitness, fun, and friendship across a range of athletic events and activities.
Masters’ athletics is all about participation, so there are no qualification standards required for any master’s event held worldwide. If you're joining your local Athletics NSW club as a masters age athlete, joining their State Association as well will give you many additional benefits and opportunities, like setting masters records and competing at many different levels of competition around the world.

Eastlakes Point Score System
At Eastlakes we take pride in all of our athlete’s achievements and acknowledging the personal growth of an individual is recognised to be as important as celebrating competitive success. A review of the point score system was undertaken by our committee and changes were implemented during the 2024/2025 season.
Our athletes rotate through the events available for their respective age groups over the season. They are awarded points (at club meets only) based on criteria listed below and these points are then used to calculate the winners of our Age Champions at the end of the season:
• Attendance at Saturday morning club meet – 1 point per club meet
• Participation (reasonable attempt made to participate) in an event – 1 point per event
• Placing in an event:
o 1st place – 3 points
o 2nd place – 2 points
o 3rd place – 1 point
• Personal best in an event - 3 points (prior to 2024/25 - 1 point awarded)
• Setting a new club record – 3 points (prior to 2024/25 - 5 points awarded)
Eastlakes also recognises that some athletes may wish to compete at external athletics competitions, which may prevent them from participating (and earning points) at an Eastlakes Saturday morning club meet. Where evidence of participation at an external meet is provided to the Eastlakes committee, the athlete will be awarded the maximum attendance and participation points that they could have earned at club on that day. Attendance at any of the following events will be considered:
• LANSW or ANSW sanctioned event e.g. State relays, State combined, Treloar Shield etc
• School Sports Australia Athletics
• NSW All Schools Athletics
• Australian All Schools Athletics
• Representation in an athletics event at State level or higher.
