Eastlakes Point Score System
At Eastlakes we take pride in all of our athlete’s achievements and acknowledging the personal growth of an individual is recognised to be as important as celebrating competitive success. A review of the point score system was undertaken by our committee and changes were implemented during the 2024/2025 season.
Our athletes rotate through the events available for their respective age groups over the season. They are awarded points (at club meets only) based on criteria listed below and these points are then used to calculate the winners of our Age Champions at the end of the season:
• Attendance at Saturday morning club meet – 1 point per club meet
• Participation (reasonable attempt made to participate) in an event – 1 point per event
• Placing in an event:
o 1st place – 3 points
o 2nd place – 2 points
o 3rd place – 1 point
• Personal best in an event - 3 points (prior to 2024/25 - 1 point awarded)
• Setting a new club record – 3 points (prior to 2024/25 - 5 points awarded)
Eastlakes also recognises that some athletes may wish to compete at external athletics competitions, which may prevent them from participating (and earning points) at an Eastlakes Saturday morning club meet. Where evidence of participation at an external meet is provided to the Eastlakes committee, the athlete will be awarded the maximum attendance and participation points that they could have earned at club on that day. Attendance at any of the following events will be considered:
• LANSW or ANSW sanctioned event e.g. State relays, State combined, Treloar Shield etc
• School Sports Australia Athletics
• NSW All Schools Athletics
• Australian All Schools Athletics
• Representation in an athletics event at State level or higher.
SPECIFICATIONS FOR AGE GROUPS 25/26 SEASON
Athletes between the ages of 5 and beyond can register. Eastlakes also offer Tiny Tots, a modified athletics program for children as young as 3. Parents, grandparents and friends are also encouraged to get involved by helping with the various events.
Note the removal of “Under” for junior age groups
Based on community feedback, the double-barrelled age group names (e.g. “13's (U14)”) have been replaced with simplified terminology such as “13s,” “14s,” etc. This clearer naming better reflects the structure of our NSW competitions, particularly as the majority of athletes are competing only at a grassroots or club level.
While the naming conventions used in NSW do not currently align exactly with those used at the national level, all athletes, both in NSW and nationally, compete in age groups based on year of birth. This ensures consistency in athlete groupings regardless of terminology.
The specifications outline the weights of throwing implements and Hurdle/Steeple heights that will be used in most NSW Athletics events for the 2025/26 season.
Please ensure you have read the Competition rules related to the specific competition for any changes to these specifications. These can be found on the Athletics NSW website.

PLEASE FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS AS INABILITY TO COMPLY MEANS YOUR ATHLETE CANNOT COMPETE. Every athlete must have number, age patch and coles patch attached in the correct locations. See Below for more info.
In Athletics NSW events, the registration bib (with a red border) is placed on the center front of the athlete's top. Additionally, the age patch is to be attached to the left front side of the uniform, typically on the shorts OR on the top left of the crop, tee or singlet while the Coles sponsor patch (if applicable) goes on the top right-hand side of the top.
Elaboration:
Bib:
The bib, which displays the athlete's registration number, must be clearly visible with the full red border.
Age Patch:
This patch, often having an uneven edge, should be placed on the left front of the shorts or tights OR top left corner of crop, tee or singlet.
Coles Sponsor Patch:
If required, this patch is positioned on the right side of the top.
Positioning:
The placements ensure that all required information is visible to officials and spectators during the event.
Important Notes:
These guidelines apply to all Athletics NSW events and carnivals.
It's crucial to ensure that all patches are securely attached and visible throughout the competition.

World Athletics has provided an interactive online training programme for Level 1 and the best part is you can do it at your own pace! This will give you a comprehensive education of track and field and the confidence to officiate.
To make the process more managble Athletics NSW has spilt the programme into six stages. Stage 1 is mandatory before moving forward, but after this stage you can complete the rest of the education at your own pace as quickly or slowly as you free time allows.
Stage 1 only requires you to complete the following four (4) modules before you can start officiating to gain practical knowledge. These modules can be completed in any order.
